A mural need not depict a portrait, landscape or identifiable object. Relationships between colours, lines and forms can become the focus of an abstract composition.

This does not mean placing random shapes on a wall. Assess scale, empty space and surrounding architecture together. Explain specific preferences rather than simply asking for something modern.

How can a geometric approach be described? Sharp edges, curves, layers and rhythmic repetition offer different starting points. Use references to explain what is and is not wanted.

You may like the form in one example and the colours in another. Explain why each was chosen to clarify the direction. Develop an original composition rather than assemble copied elements from different artists.

Why do empty areas matter? The entire wall does not need the same density. Consider where the image becomes concentrated or quieter alongside the space’s use.

The area behind shelves may need a different treatment from an open surface. Doors, columns and window surrounds can divide or guide the composition. Assess these relationships using actual measurements and photographs.

How should colours be chosen? A brand palette can be a starting point, but share existing materials and lighting conditions too. Monochrome and limited palettes are as valid as multicoloured designs.

Do not claim that colours certainly enlarge a space or affect everyone identically. Be clear about the conditions in which a presentation is judged. How colours are compared between a screen and a physical surface should be clarified for the method and project.

Should furniture guide the composition? Fixed counters, shelving and seating affect the visible surface. Explain whether these will remain or change. Anchoring a design to a piece of furniture differs from taking a more independent approach.

If the composition continues across surfaces, discuss corners and joints separately. Clarify surface preparation and application scope independently of visual preferences.
