An empty wall in a shop does not automatically need to be filled with a large image. A mural becomes part of the space when it is considered alongside products, shelving, lighting and circulation.

A boutique, sports shop and design store need not share the same visual approach. Start by deciding what role the artwork should play beside the merchandise.

Where should the mural sit? The back wall seen from the entrance, the checkout and a seating corner offer different viewpoints. Consider when customers encounter the wall as they move through the shop.

If displays change frequently, parts of the artwork may be covered unpredictably. Rather than placing its focal point where it could disappear, assess compositions that work with the display arrangement.

How do products and artwork share attention? A quieter composition behind colourful merchandise or a more prominent image beside simple products may be worth exploring. These are starting questions, rather than rules; review options with representative products in place.

Show the design team shelf spacing, hanging systems and mirrors. A photograph of an empty wall may not explain how the shop will look in use.

Can a brand story go beyond its logo? Brand colours, shapes and product references can inform a visual language. There is no need to fit every service, slogan and contact detail onto one wall.

Whether choosing a mural, lettering or graffiti, clarify the idea the brand wants to express. Agree on visual and practical aims instead of unmeasured promises about increased sales.

What happens when the season changes? Permanent artwork and a short campaign display serve different needs. Discuss which elements should remain consistent when new products or seasonal colours arrive.

For multiple branches, distinguish shared visual identity from adaptations to each shop. A design should be reviewed in each setting rather than automatically transferred to walls of different proportions.

What should you prepare for the first conversation? Share general shop photographs, shelving layouts, approximate wall dimensions and brand files. If work would take place in an operating shop, explain when the area could be cleared. An existing interior design team can coordinate using its drawings.
