The surface visible when a shop closes differs from its open storefront. If graffiti or a mural is planned for the shutter, treat this second appearance as part of the design.
A shutter is not a flat, fixed wall. Its construction, movement and existing condition affect the decision to apply artwork. Not every shutter should be assumed suitable.
How do shutter lines affect an image? Joints and the surface rhythm can change how details are perceived. Assess small lettering and fine portrait details through photographs and the actual surface.
Share views showing the angle from the street. The whole shutter and its relationship to signs, walls and windows should be visible. A close-up alone may not explain the setting.
How can the brand continue across open and closed views? Colours, original forms or typography can establish a shared approach. Repeating the same logo everywhere is not essential. Decide what the closed frontage should communicate.
Consider neighbouring businesses, wayfinding and façade elements too. Avoid unverified promises that the artwork will improve security or prevent unauthorised intervention.
Why check technical suitability separately? Protect moving parts and the mechanism’s operation. Where necessary, verify surface preparation and application suitability against manufacturer information or advice from a qualified service provider.
This is not a shutter maintenance or repair guide. Rust, coating problems and mechanical faults belong to separate work. A visual presentation does not demonstrate technical suitability.
How are permissions and approvals established? Confirm the right to use the surface and any project-specific façade rules before work starts. Do not assume approval for another property or a shared area.
Provide business-approved wording and brand files. If another language is proposed, state which language will actually appear on the physical surface.
