A temporary installation is not necessarily finished when an event closes. Dismantling, transport, storage and possible reinstallation also need consideration.

Include these issues in the brief instead of leaving them until the final day. Do not assume every temporary work is reusable or every modular-looking design produces little waste.

Will the work be used once? A single event, touring several cities and reinstallation next season create different needs. Explain the intended scenario at the start.

If future venues are unknown, state the limits within which the design is assessed. Discuss concrete options rather than promise suitability for every size and condition.

How should disassembly be considered? Transport, door access and installation arrangements affect design decisions. Qualified technical teams should assess connections and structural support.

An artistic presentation cannot replace structural verification or a safe installation plan. Make clear who produces and installs each component. Discuss the information needed for reinstallation too.

What needs to be known about storage? Where and how long the work will be stored informs packaging and transport. No material should be assumed suitable for every storage environment.

Verify care and protection requirements for the actual system. Storage is not automatically included in art production. Establish who is responsible after the event.

What can change when work is reused? The new venue’s dimensions, access and event theme may differ. Do not assume the original design fits directly.

Adaptation, maintenance, replacement of missing parts and installation can be separate scopes. Do not invent savings percentages or environmental impact figures. Intention to reuse is not by itself proof of sustainability.

What belongs in the first brief? Share the first venue, target date, duration, possible future locations and the person responsible for storage. Specify which design, production, dismantling and transport stages should be assessed.
